Protect Yourself Against Accidental Electrocution with GFCI Outlets. Richard Marton Electrical Contractor explains all you need to know.

A ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) is an electrical outlet that detects a type of fault usually in a combination of an area that contains water.

GFCI’s are to be installed in any bathroom, garage, basements, or outside. The code also requires all kitchen outlets on the countertop to be GFI protected.

The GFI looks and can be used as a general outlet. The only difference is in the middle of the outlet there are buttons that will trip and turn off the power to the outlet if water contact is involved

There are also circuit breakers that are GFI protected. The breaker has a trip mechanism in the middle of it that will also trip if any type of water is involved.

It’s recommended by Richard Marton Electrical Contractor LLC that you consider installing GFCI’s – ground-fault circuit interrupters – throughout your home to make it a much safer place. Contact us today with any questions you may have.
